This Privacy Policy describes how Stocky by Section Kit (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and shares personal information when you install and use the Stocky by Section Kit Shopify app (the “App”). It also explains the choices you have about your information.

1. What Information We Collect

A. Information from the Merchant (Store Owner)

When you install the App, we may automatically collect the following information from your Shopify store via the Shopify API:

Store name, myshopify domain, and primary domain
Store owner email address and contact name (if provided)
Store address and timezone
App-specific settings and configurations (e.g., cursor style, size, color, behavior)
Subscription and installation status (installed, active, uninstalled)

We do not collect your full Shopify account password, payment card details, or other sensitive credentials. Payment processing (if any) is handled securely through Shopify’s billing API.

B. Information from Store Visitors (End Users)

The App injects a small JavaScript snippet into your storefront to display a Stocky by Section Kit. By default, the App does not collect any personal data from your store visitors. However, depending on your selected features, the script may log:

Technical information such as IP address, browser type, operating system, device type, and screen resolution (strictly for functionality like cursor adaptation or debugging).
Usage data (e.g., cursor clicks, page interactions) only if you enable analytics/heatmap features within the App settings. This data is anonymized or pseudonymized and does not directly identify individual users.

If any personal data of store visitors is processed, we act as a data processor on your behalf, and you as the merchant are the data controller. You are responsible for ensuring your own store’s privacy policy adequately discloses this processing.

C. Information You Provide Directly

When you contact us for support or leave feedback, we may collect your name, email address, and any other information you voluntarily provide.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

Provide, maintain, and improve the Stocky by Section Kit App (e.g., apply your cursor settings to the storefront).
Communicate with you about service updates, security alerts, and support requests.
Analyze aggregated, anonymized data to understand app performance and usage trends.
Comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not use merchant or visitor data for unsolicited marketing or sell personal data to third parties.

3. How We Share Your Information

We may share your information with:

Shopify Inc. – As necessary to provide the App through the Shopify platform (e.g., API calls). Shopify acts as a sub-processor; you can review Shopify’s privacy policy for details.
Service Providers – Trusted third parties that help us host data (e.g., cloud hosting like AWS, Heroku), analyze performance, or manage customer support. These providers are contractually bound to handle data only per our instructions and for no other purpose.

We never sell, rent, or trade your personal data.

4. Data Retention

We retain merchant data for as long as your store has the App installed or as needed to fulfill the purposes described here. If you uninstall the App, we will automatically delete or anonymize your store-specific data within 30 days, unless a longer retention period is required by law.

Visitor-related logs and analytics data (if collected) are retained for no longer than 90 days and are regularly purged.

5. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

The App itself does not drop cookies on your storefront for tracking visitors. However, the Stocky by Section Kit script may use localStorage or similar technology to remember visitor cursor preferences (e.g., if you allow users to temporarily hide the cursor). No personal data is stored in that local storage.

If you, as the merchant, enable third-party analytics or heatmaps through our App, separate cookie policies from those third parties will apply. You must disclose this in your store’s privacy policy.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures (e.g., encryption in transit, access controls, regular audits) to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of online transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Rectify any inaccurate or incomplete data.
Erase your data (“right to be forgotten”).
Restrict or object to processing.
Data portability (receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format).

We ensure appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), are in place to protect your data during such transfers, in compliance with GDPR and other laws.

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy within the App or via email. The “Last Updated” date at the top will reflect the changes.
